SPRING GROVE SCHOOL

Spring Grove is a happy family school set in 14 acres of beautiful Kent countryside and is based in a magnificent Stuart Mansion, completed in 1674.

It was built in 1674 by Dr Thomas Brett and during its history it welcomed Jane Austen as a visitor from Godmersham House and in 1919 Joseph Conrad stayed here for several months writing “The Rescue” during his stay.  The school was founded in 1967 by Mrs Cynthia Christopherson, wife of Col. Stanley Christopherson, the owner of Spring Grove.  There were 12 pupils in that first year under the care of Mrs June Cobb, the headmistress.

For a large part of its history it has been run and guided by Mr. Washington-Jones as a family school with a homely atmosphere and emphasis on good manners.

It has recently been set up as a charitable trust and is currently administered by a Board of Governors with Mr Bill Jones as Headmaster, who arrived in January 2008.

Spring Grove has about 200 boys and girls aged between 2-11.
Our maximum class size is 18, which offers each pupil personal attention and the potential to develop as an individual.

It is very much a country school and the sports fields offer the children one of the most beautiful playgrounds in Kent. There is a miniature lake for pond dipping and a wild area set aside for nature.

There is a netball and tennis court, football pitches, a rugby pitch, hockey pitch, cricket pitch and running track. There is a purpose built hall for drama, P.E. and gymnastics. There is a new Art Room and a dedicated Computer Room, with 18 client PC's running WinXP from a Windows 2003 server.
It has its own outside heated swimming pool and also makes use of local sports facilities in Wye and Ashford.
