Our Aim is for:

All children to participate in and develop an appreciation for sport.

Sportsmanship

We believe that the conduct and attitude of all participants should be exemplary. All players should show courtesy, play fairly, show a striving spirit to win and show grace in losing.

Sports Review 2011

Girls' Sport

It has been a pretty amazing year of sport for the girls, the highlight being the Cross Country season. The girls have shown such enthusiasm and the improvement has been so clear to see. Even now the children are already excited about coming back in September and training for the forthcoming events. They just want to be part of those winning teams.

The girls have excelled in all aspects and this has been reflected in match results where they can bask in the glory of some emphatic wins. There were some fantastic scores in the football matches particularly from the U9 girls who remain unbeaten and with the help of Mrs de Moubray and her knowledge of Netball the girls have again enjoyed some good victories.

During this final term the girls have been taking part in Kwik Cricket and Rounders. Again they have shown great strength and have enjoyed even more success. The school hosted an U9 Swimming Gala against Ashford Friars and once again produced some outstanding performances with the help of Mrs Benson who gave up a lot of her own time to come in and work with the children.

For only the 3rd time the school entered the IAPS Track and Field Championships. Seven girls represented the school and amazingly they came away with 6 medals and 3 girls were selected to represent Kent in the National Championships in Birmingham.

Boys' Sport

I thoroughly enjoy the Summer Term and this year has been no exception. Swimming, Kwik Cricket, hard ball cricket and Athletics in readiness for Sports Day have all been evident upon the field. Our Under 9 boys have been in superb form which is credit to their hard work and commitment against some quality opposition. Fine individual performances from Fred Sharp, Angus Stainton and Albert Courage have ensured that we have had a good solid tally of runs, yet taking wickets through some accurate and consistent bowling. All our U9s have matured through this term and it has been a delight to watch them enjoy, more importantly than anything, their cricket season, well done to you all. Active Cricket has played its part and our continuing after-school sessions and holiday cricket camps have ensured that the standard of our cricket at the junior level is improving significantly. I think we shall see the development of some fine terms over the next 2/3 years. The U11s have also had a busy season. Some fine batting from Oliver Langworthy and Alex Wanstall, very ably supported by Jonathan Rowe and the team generally have seen a gritty determination develop.

Spring Grove hosted its first swimming gala against Ashford Friars. It was a wonderful afternoon and we only narrowly lost out. I intend to host more of these events at both 9 and U11 level. We hosted Mrs Rowe and her Year 6 class from Haddon Dene school. In beautiful sunshine we picnicked, played kwik cricket and held a small swimming gala - beating them, with some lovely swimming from Prep 6. I hope this will become an annual event.

Sports Day is the climax of our sporting calendar and is an opportunity for every child to compete. It was an absolutely fantastic day and I would like to thank all staff for their help and support to make this yet again a wonderful event.

It has been lovely to see the children take part and blossom in so many different sports. We, at Spring Grove are so very proud of all of the children and their achievements. Finally, We would like to take this opportunity to thank parents, grandparents and staff for the support they have given the children throughout the year. A special thank you to all of the sports staff for their superb efforts and support.

We hope you all have a lovely summer break and we look forward to seeing everyone in September for yet another exciting year of sport. Dee Langford and Phil Williams
