Destination Schools

Destination Schools

Our wide-ranging education and curriculum is the basis for preparing children for the next stage in their schooling – whether their destination schools are senior state or independent. Our curriculum promotes learning, personal growth and development and includes the many and varied extracurricular activities that enrich the children’s education, as well as the various ways in which we seek to develop personal skills such as independence, creativity, cooperation and confidence. The overall strength of our teaching and learning prepares our pupils for the next stage of their school career, whatever that might be, and for their future lives.

Senior School Choice

As a completely independent Prep school, our focus is always on ensuring that we support families to make the best choice of secondary education for their child. That choice includes sitting the Kent Test (11+) for a place at a local grammar school, usually in Ashford, Folkestone or Canterbury, or entrance and scholarship exams for one of the wide range of local independent schools. All families are invited into school to speak with the Head and Deputy Head (Academic) about future destination school choices for their child.

11+ Common Entrance (ISEB)

We also provide information and support for families looking for Year 7 and Year 9 entry to independent schools. Many of our Prep 6 children sit the Independent Schools Examinations Board 11+ exam, which is part of the process used by these senior schools to assess candidates for entry. We are delighted that recent offers to some our Prep 6 leavers have come from schools such as Eton, Harrow and Tonbridge.

Kent Test

The Kent Test (11+) takes place annually in September and is designed to assess whether grammar school is a suitable option for your child.  The assessments are made up of Reasoning, which contains questions that test verbal, non-verbal and spatial skills, English and Maths. Many of our pupils sit the Kent Test at the start of their Prep 6 year, and we are very proud of our excellent success rate – please see the table below for grammar school destinations.

Independent Schools Evening

Every two years we hold an Independent Schools Evening, which provides a unique opportunity for Spring Grove parents to meet and talk to Heads and admissions staff from a range of local independent schools. The most recent was in November 2022, with attendance by Ashford School, Kent College Canterbury, St Edmund’s School, Sutton Valence, Dover College, Benenden School and The King’s School, Canterbury. The evening was both well supported and well received by our current parents.

The figures below give a broad picture of where our Prep 6 leavers have gone since 2018.
