Key Stage 2 (8 +)
Welcome to Prep 3 to Prep 6
Our small class sizes and inclusive House system allow our Key Stage 2 children (Prep 3 to Prep 6) to develop their academic skills and grow in confidence within a nurturing family environment. Form teachers, working together with specialist Science, Languages, Art, Music, ICT and Sports staff, help children to reach their potential in many disciplines and enjoy a broad and varied curriculum. In the classroom, each child has access to a Chromebook, and outside we make the most of our beautiful rural setting, with sporting activities three afternoons a week, and a wealth of extra-curricular clubs and regular visits to Forest School. We also assess all children regularly to monitor their progress, and you can access the Assessment Schedule for 2019-20 here.
Through involvement in House entertainments, plays, assemblies, quizzes, singing, orchestra and other musical ensembles, our children perform with impressive confidence, and we are particularly proud of how many of our Key Stage 2 children learn an instrument. Representing the school in a sports team is a new opportunity from Prep 3, with friendly matches introduced from Under 8 level upwards. Educational trips are organised throughout the year, including visits to Boulogne, History outings to Hever Castle, Rochester Cathedral and Castle, and Canterbury Roman Museum, and residential trips for Prep 5 to Château de la Baudonnière, while Prep 6 go away for an activity-based experience.
In Prep 5 and 6, children spend their final two years at Spring Grove School collecting credits as part of the Challenge Award Scheme, which encompasses not only their special achievements inside School, but also sport, charity, community involvement, challenges and clubs outside School, encouraging true breadth of learning.
In their final year, all Prep 6 children enjoy a leadership role as School prefects, ready to face the challenge of moving on, whether this is to a grammar school via the 11+ (Kent Test), to other local state schools or within the private sector, with a pleasing number of Spring Grove School pupils each year winning scholarships to independent schools.
