Teddies and Giraffes

Teddies and Giraffes

Our experienced Nursery staff support the children to develop their skills using a range of play-based activities indoors and outdoors.

Teddies (2-3 years)

Children may start from the age of two in our welcoming and nurturing Teddies class. Our extensive facilities offer children the opportunity to develop both indoors and outdoors. In these early years we concentrate on the three prime areas of development – communication and language, physical development and personal and social skills.

Our experienced Teddies staff team support the children to develop all these skills using a range of play-based activities.

My daughter has been at Teddies for six months now. She absolutely loves it and looks forward to her days there. Before she started she struggled when being left with other people but the staff were great with her and she settled in almost straight away. She is always bursting with stories to tell me at home time. There are always so many activities for the children to get involved with and the lovely big outside space is an added bonus.

Giraffes (pre-school year)

The children move on from Teddies into Giraffes for their pre-school year (in the September following their 3rd birthday). Here children are supported by an experienced Early Years teacher and team of staff.

A balanced programme of activities alongside learning through play and exploration allow the children to grow in confidence while developing their core skills and independence. The EYFS curriculum extends to a further four areas – literacy, maths, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

The Giraffes class consists of two rooms and a dedicated outside area. The larger of the two rooms is used mainly for messy play, imaginative play and construction. Smaller group work takes place in the ‘quiet room’. The children move freely from room to room as they carry out different activities.

The Giraffes children have a more structured week with a range of sessions led by specialist teachers in:

  • PE
  • French
  • Music
  • Forest School (every two weeks)

In addition the Giraffes children attend the first part of the school Family Assembly held every Friday morning during term time, as well as performing in the annual Early Years Nativity play at Christmas.

The staff are always cheerful and well presented and most importantly they really care about the welfare, happiness and development of the children in their care. There is a wonderful emphasis on outdoor play and the garden is child heaven! Our son loves going on nature walks, the art activities and the music class he attends. We feel very lucky to have found such a special place for our children to play, learn and grow.
