Eco School

Green Flag Award

Spring Grove is very proud to fly the Eco-Schools Green Flag in recognition of the environmental activity and awareness in school.

Eco Committee

The school’s Eco Committee is led by our Head of Forest School, Mrs McCullough, and is made up of pupils elected from across the whole school. The committee meets regularly, and the pupils complete an annual Environmental Review to identify issues and spot gaps in the school’s existing environmental activity. The Green Flag Award committee noted: ‘Your Action Plan shows that your Eco-Committee have carefully considered how they can involve their entire school in their planned Eco-Schools’ activities to achieve maximum impacts and raise awareness amongst their school community.’

The Eco-Committee communicates their activities school-wide with both assembly and class feedback, as well as in the school newsletter and on an Eco-board display in the main school reception area.

Eco Activities

Eco activities include litter picks, beach cleans, planting shrubs and trees. Environmental education is also made accessible and engaging through a range of curriculum links, for example looking at global issues in Geography, Science and Maths as well as in Early Years topics such as ‘Understanding the World’. Forest School also offers a wide variety of opportunities for all kinds of Eco activities as pupils spend time outdoors and learn to appreciate the wonders of the natural world.
