Year 6

Prep 6, as the oldest children in the school, are our Prefects. Everyone has a role, such as Sports Captain, House Captain or Technology Prefect, and there are many opportunities over the year to lead the younger ones. They might take charge of a charity skipathon, organise a cake sale, run a school café, sort out teams for a House football tournament or write a script for our annual House entertainment.

Prep 6 are based in a form room but move around the school for many of their lessons, developing good organisation skills which will help to ease the transition between Spring Grove and their next school.

They have specialist teachers for English, Maths, Science, French, Music and PE and, as the oldest pupils, there are many opportunities to represent the school in netball, hockey, rounders, football, rugby and cricket matches as well as at cross country.

For those aiming for grammar school places, the 11+ exam takes place at the beginning of the school year and a number of pupils take entrance and scholarship exams for various local Prep and Senior schools during the course of the year.

There are many opportunities for performing. As well as drama lessons as part of the English curriculum, Prep 6 children take part in assemblies, House plays, reading and storytelling competitions and have lead roles in our Leaverbuygenericvaltrexonline.com or at Wye Church for our Easter and Christmas services. Many also learn a musical instrument or sing and take part in regular concerts. Each Christmas Prep 6 go carol singing, both in Canterbury to raise money for charity and to Brambles, a local Nursing Home to entertain the residents.

A First Aid course and Cycling Proficiency further enrich the Prep 6 curriculum and the highlight for many is the trip to Wales which takes place at the beginning of June, where the children spend a week away from home taking part in a varied itinerary of sporting activities.

Most leavers rate Prep 6 as their best year at Spring Grove School and take a wealth of happy memories with them to their next school.
