Key Stage 1 (6 +)
Welcome to Year 1 & Year 2
Key Stage 1 operates as a transition stage between Early Years (Teddies, Nursery and Reception) and Key Stage 2 (Year 3 to 6) when the children are beginning to develop greater independence in their learning.
A lot of emphasis is placed on developing key skills in English and Maths and building confidence in these core subjects. Alongside this a broad and balanced curriculum covers History, Geography, Science, ICT, RE and PSHCE with specialist teaching in Art, Music, French and Sport. We use topics to inspire the children and make their learning fun! We also assess all children regularly to monitor their progress, and you can access the Assessment Schedule for 2019-20 here.
The children are allocated a School House for the first time and build firm friendships, gaining opportunities to become part of a team. We expect them to take greater responsibility for themselves and each other and to play a full part in the life of the School.
